• Lectures:   MW 4:30–5:45 pm in SL-108

• Textbook:   Linear System Theory and Design, 4rd edition,  by Chi-Tsong Chen, Oxford University Press, 2013.     (Students should review chapters 1 and 2. We will cover most of chapters 3 through 6 of the textbook, and introduce balanced and minimal realizations, state feedback, and state estimators, plus additional topics as time permits.)

  • Corequisite: MATH 51100    Linear Algebra with Applications All students who have not already completed MATH 511 should be aware that ECE602 assumes basic knowledge of matrix operations and eigenstructure.

• Grading:
  • Canvas Quizzes (7%)
  • Midterm exams (62%): Note: Due to scheduling conflicts, midterm exams will take place in class rather than on Friday evenings. Dates will be selected by popular vote in class.
    • Exam 1 (31%)    4:30-5:45pm February 20, 2023
      • Coverage: Chapters 1 and 2, Sections 3.1 through 3.6 plus generalized eigenvalues as presented in class, and Sections 4.1, 4.2, 4.4, and 4.6.
    • Exam 2 (31%)    4:30-5:45pm, April 5, 2023
      • Coverage: Chapters 5 and 6.
    • Final exam (31%)    3:30-5:30 pm, Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
      • Coverage: The final will focus on sections 4.5, 7.1, 7.2, 7.5, 8.1, 8.2, 8.4, plus the Lecture Notes on Controllability Indices. However, students should be aware that the material builds on itself, and should review all material on linear time-invariant systems, since it could be needed in order to solve problems from the indicated sections.
