Meet Current Student, Lizzie Todd
Lizzie is an out-of- state student studying Motorsports Engineering.
Why did you choose to study at IUPUI?
The reason I chose IUPUI was pretty simple, it os the only school in the nation with a degree in Motorsports Engineering. Besides that, as a high school student I attended the School of Engineering and Technology’s summer POWER Camp for females. I loved what I learned and I very much liked the campus and the people I met during the camp.
Why Motorsports Engineering?
When I was 8 years old, I went to my very first Indianapolis 500, it was the first time I had seen a car go from 60 miles an hour to over 220 miles an hour in just a few seconds. From that moment, I knew I wanted to work and be around racecars. So, the motorsports engineering program was really perfect for my future plans.

My career aspirations:
I would really love to get a job on a full time IndyCar team such as Andretti or Penske doing data acquisition or strategy work. Ultimately, I hope to become a crew chief or a team owner of a top IndyCar or NHRA team.
My college experience has:
My college experience so far has been amazing. I am an out of state student, and knew no students coming in. However, I found many people were in the same boat and it was easy to make friends. The STEM Summer Bridge program definitely helped with the transition. I love the coursework here and the opportunities available for research and internships.
My favorite thing about IUPUI:
My favorite thing about IUPUI is there is always something going on, the campus never gets boring, and there are always opportunities to get involved in something.
My advice for new students:
My advice for incoming freshman is to come in with an open mind. College is a lot different than high school, you are a lot more responsible for managing your time and the things you do. I would recommend doing things that get you involved on campus such a joining a club, or doing the Summer Bridge program. Orientation is a good place to start too, and can help with simply learning how to get involved or making friends. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
