Meet Current Student, Han Shih

Michelle-Han-Shih

Han is a student in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI, - University of Indianapolis dual-degree program and is currently studying Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.  She is from Singapore.

Why did you choose to study at IUPUI?
I chose IUPUI because of the Purdue University engineering degree program that is offered here.

Why Electrical Engineering?
I have always loved computers and electronics and have always been fascinated with how they work. After doing some preliminary research, I found out that electrical engineering covered my interests the best.

At IUPUI I’m involved in:
  • IUPUI IEEE Chapter President
  • Internship at United Parcel Service
  • Undergraduate research

My career aspirations:
I have a strong interest in designing digital circuits, and I hope to work in energy or power related fields (vehicles or power electronics). Ultimately, I hope to have the opportunity to combine all I have learned from computer science and electrical engineering, and get into an area where I can design cutting-edge technology.

My college experience has:
My college experience has been nothing but fulfilling. I have had opportunities to meet with like-minded classmates in my classes, and through on campus organizations, I have been blessed with opportunities to network with professionals in the industry. The Purdue School of Engineering and Technology is always reaching out and bringing in professionals currently working in the field. These professionals come to campus and hold information sessions for current students. Through these opportunities, students like me are introduced to how our learning can be applied to industries. These sessions provide wonderful networking opportunities as well as a platform to practice communication with potential employers.

My favorite thing about IUPUI:
My favorite thing about IUPUI is the many opportunities to network and to learn. The staff and faculty members here are genuinely helpful.

My advice for new students:
My advice for new students: regardless of whether you are a freshman or a transfer, do not be afraid to take your first step, as it will lead to many open doors. There is a place for everyone here at IUPUI, and tons of opportunities here; but it is entirely up to you if you want to take advantage of them. You can be whoever you would like to be here, be it starting anew, or continue being the awesome you. Go to events, learn all you can here, and have fun in the process. Be confident, because that is your first step towards success! Good luck!
