Meet Current Student, Alec Pierce
Alec is student studying Electrical Engineering.
Why did you choose to study at IUPUI?
I chose IUPUI because I can get a Purdue University degree in Engineering and because I loved the campus when I visited.
Why Electrical Engineering?
My senior year in high school I did Vex robotics. I got to design and build robots, work with electrical systems, and learn from an engineer. My calculus professor taught me so much about the engineering world and its endless possibilities. I loved the late hours, tinkering with different designs, and from that day on I resolved to be an Electrical Engineer.

My career aspirations:
My mother was a nurse so I had the opportunity to spend some time in hospitals. I have always had a strong desire for the medical field, but not the stomach for the work. My classes have shown me the endless possibilities and different ideas to create medical devices to better people’s lives. I want to design and create medical technology that will allow men and women to live their best lives.
My college experience has:
My college experience has been a rollercoaster. I have taught students in inner city schools, I have done undergraduate research with experts in their fields to revolutionize the medical field, I have spent all-nighters in the library with some of the people I have ever met, I have worked in my dream career, I have been introduced to dozens of different cultures and experiences, and lastly I have been prepared by IUPUI to step out into the business world and make an impact.
My favorite thing about IUPUI:
I would have to say that my favorite thing about IUPUI is the friendships that I have made and all of the unique opportunities at IUPUI.
My advice for new students:
There are so many things to say, but the most important things to tell any new student is this: Stay on campus as much as possible. If you go to class and then just go back to your dorm room or to your house or apartment, you will miss out on so many amazing experiences in college. Get to know you professors. They are not just here to tell you what to study. They can be your mentors, give you a new perspective for your major, and can give you opportunities to work, intern, or do research with them. Lastly I would say try a little bit of everything. Sign up for the Quidditch club, play Ultimate Frisbee in Taylor courtyard, take peculiar opportunities, and find people that are going to help you succeed. “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, and today is a gift that is why it is called the present…..”
