What is the difference between Engineering and Engineering Technology?
Engineering is more theoretical and focuses on new innovation and design. Higher level math and science courses are required.
Engineering Technology is more hands on focusing on the implementation and extension of existing technologies. Math and science courses are required, but the focus is on application as opposed to theory as in an engineering program.
What are the admission requirements for the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI?
Direct Admission Requirements for Undergraduate Programs:
Engineering
Core 40 or equivalent coursework*, with a GPA of 3.0 and pre-calculus, chemistry, and:
SAT: Math score of 570 and SAT Evidenced Based Reading and Writing score of 540
or
ACT: Math score of 24 and ACT English score of 20
Technology
Academic Honors Diploma
or Core 40 or equivalent coursework*, with a GPA of 3.0
or Core 40 or equivalent coursework*, with the following SAT or ACT scores:
SAT: Math score of 530 and SAT Evidenced Based Reading and Writing score of 500
or
ACT: Math score of 21 and ACT English score of 19
*8 semesters of mathematics including pre-calculus, 6 semesters of science, with labs, including a year of chemistry.
6 semesters of social science, 4 semesters of additional college prep courses selected from mathematics, English, science, foreign language, and social sciences.
What if I don’t meet these direct admission requirements? Can I still study an engineering or technology program?
Students who do not meet these direct admission requirements may have the opportunity to enter IUPUI through University College while they work toward their goals and meet the requirements of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology.
I've already been admitted to the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI, so what do I do next?
First, be sure to read your admission letter carefully. It provides important information regarding your student orientation session and future enrollment. Next, the School of Engineering and Technology Office of Student Services would be delighted to hear from you and your plans to enroll. If you like, they can put you in touch with a School of Engineering and Technology student ambassador. (A student’s perspective can be so helpful!) They will also be happy to answer other questions that you may have regarding the School of Engineering and Technology and the IUPUI campus as well.
The School of Engineering and Technology New Student Academic Advising Center will be available to assist you with developing your plan of study and choosing your classes. Typically, freshman students meet with the New Student Academic Advising Center staff during orientation.
