Welcome Adult Learners!
The Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI, welcomes adult learners!
I am not sure if I want to study an engineering program or a technology program. What is the difference?
Engineering is more theoretical and focuses on new innovation and design. Higher level math and science courses are required.
Engineering Technology is more hands on focusing on the implementation and extension of existing technologies. Math and science courses are required, but the focus is on application as opposed to theory as in an engineering program.
How do I begin the application process to IUPUI?
If you are a high school graduate or have a GED, have never attended a college or university, or if you have 12 or fewer college credits, you should apply to IUPUI as an undergraduate student.
If you have earned more than 12 credit hours at another college or university, you should apply as a transfer student.
If you are a returning student to IUPUI, you should apply as a returning student.
What are admission requirements?
As part of your application review, the IUPUI Office of Undergraduate Admissions will examine your high school courses, grades, and any tests scores that you may have taken such as the SAT or ACT. If applying with a GED, an average GED score of 530 or higher and a score of 500 on the writing section is required.
Do I need to take the SAT or ACT for admission?
The SAT or ACT test is not required if it has been more than 4 months since your high school graduating class has graduated.
Will I earn transfer credit for courses that I have taken at another university or college?
Once you complete the application process, your coursework will be evaluated by the IUPUI Office of Admissions to determine transferability. Courses must be from an institution that is recognized by IUPUI. Also, a grade of C or better (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) must be earned in a course before it can be considered for transfer credit.
The School of Engineering and Technology New Student Academic Advising Center will be available to assist you with developing your plan of study and choosing your classes. Typically, transfer students meet with the New Student Academic Advising Center staff during the transfer student orientation. However, you can send immediate questions regarding the transfer credit process to the New Student Academic Advising Center (etadvise@iupui.edu) or call 317-274-9713.
